This year, Earth Day falls on Sunday, April 22nd and will focus on mobilizing the world to End Plastic Pollution, creating support for a global effort to eliminate single-use plastics, and encouraging global regulation for the disposal of plastics (Earth Day Network). By 2050 scientists estimate that the oceans will contain more plastic than fish by weight (Plastic Pollution Coalition)!
Helping agencies comply with rapidly evolving environmental regulations, such as AB 32, SB 97, and SB 375 which address climate change, is a large part of what we do, but Rincon also assists agencies to transition beyond compliance. Rincon has developed plastic bag ordinances for cities, created sustainability master plans, waste management plans, and designed Zero Waste Programs. The Zero Waste Program launched at the Port of Hueneme in 2016, received the 2017 Earth Day Award for Excellence in Environmental Stewardship from the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, and has been identified by Cal Recycle as a successful model for zero waste in Ventura County.
We know every day should be Earth Day, but since good habits can fall through the cracks, we have our company Green Team to remind us to reflect, think big, and take action to reduce our environmental footprint and make a positive impact on our community. Movements are made when individuals take initiative, and Rincon leads by example.
