Species Surveys Federal, state and local laws and regulations protect a specific group of plants and wildlife identified as special-status species. Also include are those species listed under the federal and state Endangered Species Acts (ESA). Specific surveys are required for many ESA-listed rare, threatened, or endangered species if it is thought that they may be present on a project site. These surveys entail resource agency (CDFG, USFWS, etc) approved biologists performing multiple site visits to determine a species presence or lack thereof.
