EBJ Business Achievement Award

Rincon’s Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District Garland Ranch Regional Park Fuel Mitigation and Fire Management Plan has been honored with a Technology Merit Award from EBJ! This award celebrates our efforts to create an interactive web portal to support a more transparent public planning process and community engagement.

About the Project

The Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District Garland Ranch Regional Park Fuel Mitigation and Fire Management Plan (FMFMP) provides a roadmap for various fire hazard reduction strategy projects and land management activities, taking a balanced approach that helps protect the park and surrounding communities from catastrophic wildfire while enhancing park resources and resiliency to wildfire. As part of the FMFMP, Rincon created an interactive web portal to support a more transparent public planning process and community engagement. Leveraging geographic information systems (GIS) and other innovative technologies, the platform includes an interactive page that introduces the FMFMP with maps and graphics to convey technical concepts in a more visual and compelling format when presented to the community. The digital platform also includes a reference library, project-specific documentation, and easy-to-access materials for community download. This digital platform is a single point of information for the FMFMP planning process and helps inform the community throughout the various stages of the plan itself.

CCBJ Business Achievement Award

Rincon’s Santa Cruz County Climate Action and Adaptation Plan has been honored with Technology Merit Award from CCBJ! This award celebrates Rincon’s efforts in assisting Santa Cruz County through our creation of a digital platform that combines geographic information systems, infographics, and images to explain the County’s climate risks, understand its vulnerabilities, and track progress.

About the Project

The Santa Cruz County Climate Action and Adaptation Plan is a long-term plan that includes strategies that will both decarbonize Santa Cruz County in support of California’s carbon neutrality goal and address the worst impacts of climate change. CAAP reports are typically very technical, provided in a static format, difficult to maintain, and less approachable for public consumption. The County’s goal was to develop a more dynamic and accessible CAAP that fostered better collaboration, action, and provided an easier framework to adjust ongoing strategies. To support the County’s goals and advance CAAP communication methods, Rincon created a digital platform combining geographic information systems (GIS), infographics, and images to explain the County’s climate risks, understand its vulnerabilities, and track progress. This innovative digital platform represents an evolution in the way CAAPs have historically been presented to the public. As a “living plan” it can more easily track progress, evolve with time, foster public awareness, and increase comprehension.
